Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you’re installing a new Advent Air system or need help with troubleshooting, we’ve got you covered. Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions, making it easier to keep your system running at its best.
Is there a replacement available for the ACTH11 thermostat?
The ACTH11 analog thermostat is no longer available but can be replaced with the ACRG15 digital thermostat. The ACRG15 comes with a digital relay box, a digital thermostat, and a new Flash Freeze ceiling assembly.
Why can't I install an "ACR model AC with ACM or other brands' components on my RV?
The EPA implemented a mandate that all rooftop air conditioners being sold in the US must have R32 refrigerant, which has a lower impact on ozone depletion than the former R410A refrigerant. The new R32 refrigerant has additional requirements for the components used in conjunction with the system, including the need to replace the control box when replacing the rooftop AC. Any rooftop AC using R32 refrigerant should follow this protocol to ensure compliance with 2025 UL certification requirements.
Do I need a start capacitor?
We recommend using a start capacitor if your AC unit is being powered by a generator. We recommend using at least a 3,000-watt generator. Start capacitors are unit-specific and not interchangeable so please verify the capacitor is compatible with your AC unit before installation.
Can I add a heat strip to my existing unit?
Check your thermostat to see if it has the option for a heat strip. Also, verify the model of the AC unit you have and consult with your supplier as the heat strip is specific and not interchangeable.
Can I replace a Carrier upper unit with an Advent upper unit?
If all other components of the Carrier system are functional, the ACCARKIT Carrier interface kit allows the Advent upper AC unit to connect to the existing Carrier relay box.
Can I replace a Coleman upper unit with an Advent upper unit?
If all other components of the Coleman system are functional, the ACCOLKIT Coleman interface kit allows the Advent upper AC unit to connect to the existing Coleman relay box.
The knobs for my ceiling assembly will not stay on. What can I do?
We offer replacement knobs with a longer shaft. These are especially helpful if the unit was installed as a replacement or if the RV has an extremely thick roof.
It is 98° outside. I have my thermostat set to 70°. The inside temperature is still 77°. Is my AC unit defective?
The unit is designed to cool the interior temperature 18°-22° below the outside temperature.
My AC unit is not cooling. The Freon appears to have leaked out and there is oil in the base pan. Can the system be recharged?
No. This is a sealed system and not designed to be recharged.
My thermostat is showing DF and the coils under the ceiling assembly are iced over. What is wrong?
The “DF” means the system is in “Defrost Mode.” There are several things to check to help prevent this from happening:
- The unit could be working too hard to cool beyond the 18º – 22º drop.
- Remove the ceiling assembly and check that everything is taped off properly.
- Remove the shroud and check the coils for the buildup of debris, as this can cause overheating and low circulation.
- Ensure all ceiling returns have the same airflow and temperature output. Lack of flow or warmer air in one return could indicate an issue with the ductwork.
I have a non-ducted ACDB ceiling assembly and the fan always runs. Is this normal?
Yes, the fan will run continuously. The compressor will kick on and off, but the fan always runs.
